First day of school

Today was our first day of the new homeschooling year. We started out by not getting up until 8:00, since there's no bus to catch. I, personally, find this to be one of the biggest advantages of homeschooling. I think allowing the girls to get adequate sleep (which catching the bus would severely limit) keeps them healthier, allows them to learn better, and contributes to better moods and attitudes overall.

Or maybe the adequate sleep thing just applies to their mom. She is pretty grumpy when she's overtired.

I'm still waiting for some of their books to arrive. Allison is happy that her spelling book isn't here yet. She certainly is not anxious to see it come.

We started a new history curriculum "The Mystery of History". I'm really excited about it. I've never used a chronological study of history and this includes Biblical history with general world history. I think it will be neat to finally put together in my own mind how the two fit together.

It's going to be a week (at least) of adjustment, of getting back into a routine. Thankfully, we don't have our co-op group, swim class, or doctor's appointments for Mom until next week. It should allow us to ease back into things a little better.

  1. Hope you had a great day. We started a few weeks ago, just a few days here and there, as the girls work at a seasonal tourist attraction.

I like easing into the year, anyway. I have heard good things about "Mystery of History".

    Have a wonderful year!

  2. Nathan and I were admiring the idea of sleeping until 8 am! Nathan especially. :o) We loved using Mystery Of History! Fantastic books. The time-line is great! Nathan just grabbed the books out of the cabinet and is reading just for fun! :o) I am using a satellite school so they choose the curriculum.

Ps. I have one on a school bus (sniff) and she is out of the house kind of early.
